Reading Reflection 05

I enjoyed being in this group. It was wonderful experience for me to participate in developing this product. Unfortunately I couldn't see the rest of the presentations but I was really glad that I helped with something for the project. It was a great time designing logos and thinking about different solutions of this big problem. Nevertheless, during the classes I saw some ideas and I am sure that the others did perfectly. It was a great honor for me to participate in this project.

Reading Reflection 04

This reading was really interesting. It is amazing to realize how design is not only drawing but solving problems and thinking about how it is going to be accepted. It is nice to read how all the aspects are around ecology. Furthermore, I liked that nevertheless computers are taking control of everything , drawing is still very important factor that everybody value it highly.
I was thinking about many majors and I didn't know what will be most appropriate for me. After I took this class and I read that book I am 100% sure that these are the problems I want to solve in future.

Final Thoughts on the Course

It is my first year here in OSU and I feel like this class is the best class that I had. I really enjoyed all the lectures and presentations. Honestly, I think that all the journals were really fun and also giving me the opportunity to improve my design view of the things. I think that the reading were the hardest thing. I guess this is because I don't speak English well and it was hard for me to understand everything. I am glad that Gabe was our instructor because he is really cool. I am happy that I participate in this class.

Coleman Project - Personal Documentation

                    Avi http://avistad.tumblr.com/
                    Crystal http://crystalscornerblog.blogspot.com/
In the beginning of the project we tried to came up with something that is multifunctional and will be really useful. We were focusing on a product that will got the customer's eye and will be purchased. There were several ideas before the hammock-table. We focused on a night stand that may carry items for camping and could be used as a bag. Also, we got the idea for multifunctional table that could be easily moved and eventually transformed as a bed. Finally, Avi came up with the idea about the hammock-table which we all liked and decided to present.
I got the part with the table's logo. We decided to put these recycling arrows because of the table's material. The table will be constructed from recycling materials.I chose the M letter that refer to the Bulgarian Masa - table.
I feel like I could do more about the product but when I saw the presentation I thought that it's perfect. I am glad that I worked with such a good team.

Journal 08: Media Reviews

I pick Design & Accessibility for my topic. I picked this one because it was really interesting to me how this issue is being solved here in United States. For me as an international student this was not even a problem and I did not think of it as a problem. Later I realized that it is so because of the place where I live. There are so many other problems that the government does not care about such a things and I have never thought how important is this for a well designed country. I picked up some sources which can describe this better.
http://www.nea.gov/resources/accessibility/pubs/DesignAccessibility.html I have never thought that there will be a handout for managing  with the law requirements regarding the accessibility. I guess we have the same law but nobody is doing anything about solving this issue. This book is created to help managing the problem easier.
http://www.accessibilitydesign.com/aboutus.html This is the web site of a company which deals with building and designing access for people with disabilities. I have never thought that there are companies managing this issue.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY6PhtCLrTg It is so amazing how these people are designing a new way, way which is easier for understanding from people with disabilities for learning. I think that this is really rare in my country and it will be great if it happens more often.

http://www.ap.buffalo.edu/idea/ This is the web site of a company that deals with a lot of daily used things in order to make them accessible for people with disabilities.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBjvNYmUdjs&NR=1&feature=fvwp This is a link to a video describing more about the American Act for people with disabilities. It is amazing how good and detailed is this law.

Course Reflection

The past weeks we have been working on our projects for Coleman. It was a great experience to participate in such a project. All of it was fun and I felt like this is my favourite project thus far. We separated in groups and started designing a new project which will make the home life easier. We were thinking about something multifunctional and we came up with the idea of a table which can transform into a hammock. It was a great pleasure for me to participate and help design. I am a little bit upset because of the fact I cannot help my group present the project but I am sure that they will do it perfectly.

Reading Reflection 3

This reading was really interesting for me. All the issues with the recycling and the problem with the environment is really serious. The things as lowering the level of usage of things that are not needed is really important for solving this problem. It is amazing how there are so many innovative ideas that can change the future and save the planet but nobody is trying to change because it costs more efforts. It is sad that here in America people are trying to do something about it but for example the people in my country are so far away from the idea of saving the environment. Probably only the biggest companies are warned to use safety packaging and ways for preserving their products. Recently I saw a movie that discuses the topic about better evolution for the human kind but it is sad how the biggest companies would not want to take that step because they would lose a lot of control and more importantly money. With the time people are learning from their mistakes but it is really important to be careful not to make fatal mistakes. There is always a way to save products and the environment but the problem is when the people are going to make that change and understand that this it the most important thing for our future.

Peer Dialogue 03

For my peer dialogue 3 I looked again at Dan's Design Blog (http://dancsp11.blogspot.com/). I remember that last time I saw something that was not perfect. However, this time his blog is really well done. The letter-form assignment has really good pictures. They show the letters really good and there is no need of description. However, he added comments that says how did he capture the letters which I found nice. Furthermore, his course reflection post is perfectly done. He explains everything perfectly and I was curious to understand what was he interested in after it.
The other blog that I checked was Aggies's (http://agerhardt7design200.blogspot.com/). She did great job with all of her tasks. I think that her best post is the Online scavenger hunt. She got really good pictures for description and her definition about home good is really clear and right. Furthermore, her letter-form assignment is perfect. I like how she made the pictures black and white. I think that this makes the letters even more clear for understanding.
I think that Dan's and Aggies's blogs are still perfect. They continue doing well and I am curious to see how are they going to complete the rest of the assignments.

Course Reflection 03

These two weeks were awesome! I really like the 9th and 10th lecture when we watched the movie. It is amazing how some people are trying to legalize their product in order to keep their profit but destroying the art. I fully agree that there should be award for the work of the artist but there should be a way that other artist can create more from their products. I was amazed how this group (I don't remember their name) put on Internet their album. So people can decide how much should it cost. Methods like this one can save the music industry in my country. Furthermore, my favourite part of the movie was with the Brazilian DJ. After the class I checked their sets on Internet and now they are one of my favorites.
The 11th and 12th lectures were also amazing. I really like how these guys introduced us with the tasks that we will solve as future design students. After this presentations I understood a lot of things about the academic issues and more about the exam. After the whole lecture I was sure that I want to continue in VC.
The presentation on the next class was interesting too. I understood a lot about design work. However, I enjoyed mostly the video clip at the end of the lecture.

Reading Reflection 02

I found that reading that book is really interesting. The facts that are shown made me even more interested in design. The most interesting thing for me was when Haskett explains how the design is different in different couture and how the corporations are managing with it. Furthermore, how corporation's products should fit with their logos and image. Another good idea or maybe a fact shown in this book is how the system is organized. The fact that designers have to be sure that their products are clear for the users. For example the road system and the fact that even if you are not a driver, you might have a clue what it is about.

Peer Dialogue 02

For my Peer Dialogue 02 I will "talk" about the same posts as in my previous. I looked at Dan's design blog (http://dancsp11.blogspot.com/) and Aggie's blog (http://agerhardt7design200.blogspot.com/).
I think that they both did good job with the scavenger hunt assignment. Dan got everything perfect and he included really good images. I read interesting facts about the buildings that I was not able to find anywhere. ("Something interesting I found about the construction of the building was that they had to use very safe and reliable lifting devices to lift the large blocks of stone, as most of them weighed between 1300-3000lbs!"). Aggie's post about scavenger hunt is also really good. I like how she explained who is on the picture. I guess what I like most is the picture of me :) (just kidding). I think Aggie did a great job with her Found face assignment. She got really good catches and my favorite are the one with the boxes and the one with the oven. I was looking at my oven in order to find a face before but I couldn't. When I saw her I recognized the face momentarily. However, I don't think Dan did good job with the Find faces assignment. Maybe it is not a good reason but some of the pictures were blurry and some were not showing the face good. For example the one with the drums.
Overall, I think that Dan and Aggie have wonderful blogs. They are giving really good explanations of everything and even that I don't speak English well and I am still understanding everything is a good reason for it. I still think that they have the best blogs.

Hunting Down Design

After we gathered, we started looking for solution of the assignment. We decided to start with clue number 3.Furthermore we continued with clue number 5,4 and then 1 and 2.
Clue 3
The design of the building includes a white, large grid meant to suggest scaffolding.
Clue 5
This building was built for 2 years. After 6 months it was fulled with books and opened.
Clue 4

After we solved the first two problems we went straight to SEL Math Tower. I saw that there were no windows on the first floor.
Clue 1
After clue 4 we went in Knowton Hall. We saw the Barcelona chair and we took a picture of it.  It was designed by Mies van der Rohe. The materials used for this chair are chrome on steel frame and leather cushions filled with PU-foam.
Clue 2
And our hunting ended while I was sitting comfortably in this UP1 Armchair. I was reading Azure magazine. This chair was designed by Gaetano Pesce. The chair consists of polyurethane foam of a precisely controlled density, with a stretch nylon and wool jersey cover.

Course Reflection

Lecture 5 was my first lecture. I was worried that I missed a lot and I will have huge difficulties. However, Mr.Tippery showed me that everything is fine. He showed me what I've missed and helped me understand everything. Furthermore, the first video that I saw was amazing. I have never thought that design could be so interesting. The video was about this company that had to design the new shop cart. It was so amazing how they split and came out with so different ideas, combining the needs and the nice look. After the class I felt like this is the job that I want to work.
I was so excited about the next class. We talked about the accessibility and I read some interesting statistics. I saw some examples of what my major does. After this week I really liked being part of this class. On Monday we did the scavenger hunt, but more about it is posted in my blog. I found it exciting. The opportunity to "hunt" for design is amazing. I really like that we were not just sitting in the lecture room but exploring. The lecture on Wednesday was interesting too. I have never thought that I am so interested in the environment and I didn't know that designers are helping to protect it. I have seen some TED videos before, but the creating of the bottle that filters the water is great. I found this as most interesting video of all others. Overall, I think that these two weeks were amazing. I have never had this type of class and I find it really cool.

Found Faces

The door in the bathroom in the gym. ( :P )

The door in my building. ( :O )
I have no idea what is that but it looks like a face to me ( :| )

The hang in the locker room. ( like an alien)

The plug in the gym. ( :O )

The plug in my bath ( ;O )

I saw it when walking on campus. ( :) )

Reading Reflection 01

From what I read I understood the basics of the design and what exactly is design. It was really interesting for me to find out how the design changed the entire world. It is really surprising to see that everything around you is made and designed by someone else.
I like the second chapter where the author is explaining about the historical evolution of design. It is amazing that the human kind is designing tools that should maximize the efficiency of the hand. It is amazing that our hands can do so many things. When I read that part I realized that our hands are not designed but still they are the perfect tool.I like how the author is thinking about the design. This thought really makes me think in different way :"objects are not just expressions of a solution to a particular problem at any point in time, but can extend much further, into embodying ideas about how life can be lived in a dynamic process of innovation and refinement beyond the constraints of time and place."
Also, it is amazing how designers are improving old things in order to make them better. For example the technologies are getting smaller but more efficient. From old big laptops with ugly shape, we have tiny powerful laptops with cool form and look.
I think that this book is really good source of knowledge.I didn't know that A very short introduction is a series of interesting topics for which you can find an explanation and details.Furthermore,I like the design of the book. It has nice paper and look.

Peer Dialogue 01

For my first Peer Dialogue I decided to look in random blogs. I really enjoyed to see what my classmates already posted. Honestly, I took some ideas from other blogs and when I have difficulty in starting a new post I just look at others posts.
While I was looking at the blogs I really enjoyed Dan's Design Blog. (http://dancsp11.blogspot.com/).
I like his patterns and the way he explained what he likes in them. My favourite two patterns that he posted are the one with the bricks and the one with the chair. In the beginning when I was just looking at his posts I saw the picture of the bricks and realized that I have posted a brick picture too. Furthermore, I like his chair pattern picture. The way that these colors are arranged and their depth makes the chair amazing.
Also, I think he did a great job with the designer investigation assignment. The way he organized his post is awesome. I really like how he put designers pictures and the years when they were born.
The other blog that I like is Aggie's. (http://agerhardt7design200.blogspot.com/). The first thing that I always see in a blog is the pictures and especially the patterns assignment ones. When I opened her blog I saw them and I think that they are amazing. All of them, I like them so much. I don't know how did she captured the pictures and what kind of camera is she using but I think that she did this assignment perfectly. I was thrilled to look at her other posts.I enjoyed reading at her post about the first four lectures. The way she wrote them gave me a perfect explanation to some things that I missed while I was away.Especially the explanation about what she felt after her lectures :"my mind has been stretched to think abstractly and it is only approaching the third week." is the same that I felt after my first one.
All blogs are amazing but I think that these two are the best.

Patterns

Actually this is how my pillow look like. I really like the arrangement of the colors and the white stripe which separates them.

This is how my blanket look like. I like the intensity and the depth of the colors

I found this while I was walking on campus. I like the white color of the tree's leafs.
Also, I found this look while I was walking on campus. I like the way that the flowers and the grass is making this picture amazing.
I found this look while I was entering my apartment. This is how the walls where I live look like. I like the arrangement of the forms that make this picture complete.
This is my favourite hoody. I like how these scattered figures make this hoody looks cool.
I found this on my bread label. While I was looking at it I saw it and decided to take picture of it.
